Travel Advice

To tackle the spread of coronavirus, the government is urging people to stay at home wherever possible. Only travel for work if essential, or for other legally permitted reasons.

If you are travelling please:

  • Wear a face covering (unless you are exempt) or you could get a fine of up to £6,400
  • Travel at quieter times and make the most of your Railcard discount when travelling off-peak
  • Check the latest travel information at and by signing up to Alert Me via Messenger before you set off
  • Carry hand sanitiser and wash your hands before and after your journey

The rail industry is:

  • Maximising space to make extra room and help with social distancing
  • Boosting cleaning – cleaning trains and stations more regularly
  • Helping with hygiene – making it easier for you to keep your hands clean
  • Improving information – with people and technology to help you at every stage

There are different rules in other parts of Great Britain. So, if you're travelling in Wales or Scotland, please check the latest government advice.
