Travel Advice

When you travel by train we want you to travel with confidence which is why the rail industry has:

  • Maximised space - made extra room to help with social distancing and designed timetables to maximise services at the busiest stations and times of day to reduce delays
  • Boosted cleaning - making sure trains and stations are cleaned more frequently to give added protection
  • Helped with hygiene - installed hand sanitiser points in over 300 stations and replenish soap in stations and on trains more frequently
  • Improved information - launched a new service that alerts you to crowding and disruption on your journey before you travel

When you travel by train please:

  • Wear a face covering (unless you are exempt) or you could get a fine of up to £6,400
  • Travel at quieter times and make the most of your Railcard discount when travelling off-peak
  • Check the latest travel information at nationalrail.co.uk and by signing up to Alert Me via Messenger before you set off
  • Carry hand sanitiser and wash your hands before and after your journey

There are different rules in other parts of Great Britain. So, if you're travelling in Wales or Scotland, please check the latest government advice.

Please be aware that Railcards are non-refundable and can't be extended. Please check the FAQs section under the individual Railcards website for more information.
